Mezcal Machetazo follows a traditional mezcal production process that has been passed down through generations. The brand Machetazo offers different varieties from 3 states in Mexico: Guerrero, Oaxaca and San Luis Potosí.
The name of our mezcal symbolizes a part of the complex and labor intensive process behind the mezcal production. With a swing of the machete or machetazo, our mezcal masters mark the beginning of the adventure behind the making of this mystical spirit.
MACHETAZO MEZCAL FOLLOWS ORGANIC PROCEDURES THROUGHOUT ITS PRODUCTION AND IS
There once was a benevolent Goddess whose body was an agave plant with 40,000 leaves. The agave produced an elixir which flowed down from her leaves to be drunk by those who worshipped her; she was Mayahuel, Goddess of Mezcal.
A mighty warrior named Machetazo, who was worthy of her status, sought her out. Mayahuel soon fell in love with him, as he was known for his great strength and powerful swing of the machete.
Mahayuel offered him the most beautiful and luxurious elixir that poured from her heart for him to drink. He drank and drank until, in drunken despair, the mighty warrior said: "Grant me the wish to become a god so I may live with you in all eternity.” Unable to fulfill his wish, Machetazo was damned to live out his existence in solitude, searching for the Goddess and her potent elixir by swinging his machete at every agave he saw. He still roams the highest mountaintops of Mexico in order to be closer to his Goddess, and in every failed attempt to find her he produces Mezcal Machetazo in her honor, hoping he will see his love again.
